FOOD, WINE & CONVERSATION
Dining is part of the experience
Dome House offers a food and wine experience in the Lake District unlike anything you’ve indulged in before. Exceptional food, wine and personal service are woven into every stay, making dining as much a part of the experience as the destination itself. Book a suite and add dinner, or hire the whole house for a fully catered experience designed around your group.
The long table brings people together
The long table, at the heart of the Dome Room, is where guests gather at dinner.
Hayley’s open-plan kitchen is a feast for amateur cooks. Guests often pull up a stool, ask questions and watch dishes take shape. Your glass will remain topped up and the conversations usually last long after dessert. For many, these evenings become the highlight of their stay and are where friendships are made.
I honestly don’t think you will find a place that serves better food in a better setting with fantastic service anywhere in Windermere.

MEET YOUR CHEF AND HOST
Hayley & Dave Hadfield
Before moving to the Lake District, husband and wife team chef Hayley and front of house host Dave Hadfield, owned and ran Off the Wheaten Track, the award-winning café, deli and supper club specialising in gluten-free cooking in Altrincham, Cheshire. Together they developed a loyal following for exceptional food and warm hospitality.
In Bowness-on-Windermere, the duo brings that same passion to Dome House. The ethos is simple: create memorable dining experiences in one of the Lake District’s most spectacular settings.
“Food, for me, is a vehicle to build memories and create new ones. I want guests to associate certain dishes with their time at Dome House: that starter on the first night, that dessert that nobody could stop talking about. That is what I am cooking towards.” Hayley Hadfield, Resident Chef

Dining at Dome House Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the breakfast?
The Dome House full English breakfast includes Cumbrian bacon and sausage or choose the vegetarian breakfast with halloumi and avocado. If you just fancy an omelette, scrambled eggs on toast or a bacon butty, chef Hayley is happy to make it for you. There’s always a lighter continental option available with homemade granola, seasonal fruit, yoghurt, freshly baked croissants and sourdough, and local honey and preserves.
What time is breakfast served?
When you want it. There is no fixed sitting. Just let us know what time you want it. Come down when you are ready, in your pyjamas if you prefer to, and Hayley will cook your breakfast fresh.
How many courses is the dinner for suite guests?
The seasonal tasting menu typically runs to five or six courses depending on the season. Menus and pricing are updated seasonally. Please download the current menu or get in touch to confirm what is available during your stay.
Can I add dinner to my suite booking?
Yes. Please add it at the time of booking or get in touch with Dave directly to arrange it on 07442 971747 or email us.
Is the dinner the same every night?
For individual Suite bookings, the dinner menu is changed seasonally. If you wish to dine with us more than one night, please get in touch with us and we will do our best to vary the menu. For whole house bookings, every night is different because every menu is designed entirely around your group.
Is wine included with dinner?
Yes for groups on the all-inclusive, whole-house-hire package. Dave has extensive knowledge of wine and pairs each course on each menu.
Dave will ask if your group has a particular wine, beer or spirit and soft drink preference so that we can be well-stocked before your arrival.
For guests booking a suite overnight, dinner is the seasonal tasing menu and wine flights are available on request at an extra charge. Please ask at the time of booking.
Do I have to dine with other guests?
Not at all. The long dining table in the Dome Room is where most guests naturally gravitate, and many tell us the shared evenings are a highlight of their stay. But if you would prefer a quieter dinner for two, let Dave know and he will make sure you have your own space at a time that suits you.
Can you cater for children?
Yes a seasonal children’s menu runs throughout the year for overnight stays. Please share children’s ages and preferences when you enquire. For whole house group bookings, Hayley will cook a separate children’s menu built entirely around what your kids love to eat.
Do Dave and Hayley dine with guests?
No. Dave and Hayley will cook and host your dinner each evening. They have their own private apartment on the premises. After dinner service is finished and they have made sure you have everything you need, they retire for the evening leaving you to enjoy the house and its Lake Windermere view to yourself. Dave and Hayley are always within easy reach if needed.
Is lunch available?
Dome House does not serve lunch. The middle of the day is yours to spend however you choose whether that is exploring Bowness, walking the Dales Way or making the most of The Dome House pool and sauna.
Snacks, soft drinks, teas and coffees are available throughout the day. Or ask Hayley about packing a fabulous picnic, available for an extra charge.
I’m bringing my dog to stay at Dome House. Do I need to bring dog food?
We don’t supply dog food as part of your stay so please remember to bring some with you. Dog-friendly snacks are included in your room and a sausage at breakfast is a given, as anticipated!
We provide towels for muddy paws and can provide dog beds if required. See our dog-friendly guide for more information.
