Keep one eye on the sky for distant RAF jet flypasts and one ear on the kitchen where something extraordinary is always under way. Come to the long table for dinner by resident chef Hayley, while host Dave ensures you feel completely at home.

The Dome Room is the heart of the house and food is an integral part of your stay. The huge open plan lounge-diner is where you’ll eat, relax and soak up panoramic views from the full-length balcony. Fine dining menus are curated to your individual tastes and cooked fresh using seasonal Cumbrian produce. Pull up a stool to watch chef Hayley’s dishes come together.

I honestly don’t think you will find a place that serves better food in a better setting with fantastic service.

The long dining table is a conversation starter, enjoy meals together supper-club style or quietly, alone with just the lake view as your companion. Breakfast is when you want it, the bar list is long and drinks are all-inclusive when you book the whole house.

 Verified Total relaxation in the most amazing setting We booked this last-minute getaway as my daughter and I were in desperate need of some quality time together and a chance to completely switch off. I wanted somewhere we could unwind, relax and get away from it all—and Dome House certainly didn’t disappoint! Our room was beautiful, with the most amazing view over the lake. We also had sole use of the pool, hot tub and sauna; we simply let Dave know when we wanted to use them, which made the whole stay feel even more special and relaxing. The location was perfect too—just a couple of minutes from the centre. Although I must admit, the walk back up the bank after a few vinos was slightly challenging 😂😂 However, the spectacular views more than made up for it! Dome House was exactly the peaceful escape we needed, and we came away feeling completely refreshed. We will definitely be returning!

 Verified Hidden Gem in Bowness We had the most wonderful stay at Dome House in Bowness and genuinely didn’t want to leave. The room was beautifully appointed, with our own balcony, dog friendly, and had the most comfortable bed we’ve slept in away from home. Waking up to the stunning views each morning was incredible. The whole place has a cosy, luxurious ski chalet feel that makes it so relaxing. Our little Maltipoo, Geoff, was made to feel just as welcome as we were.To have such dog friendly accommodation was lovely, Geoff was given treats, little toys to play with in our room and a couple of sausages at breakfast. He loved it! One of the highlights was having exclusive use of the swimming pool, sauna and hot tub which you just book when you get there, so remember swimming costumes!! Breakfast was home cooked by Hayley with plenty of choice and set us up perfectly for the day. Having breakfast whilst looking out at the lake was just a wonderful way to start the day. When we left, Dave and Hayley gave Geoff a sausage for the journey home and even handed us takeaway coffees for the drive. It’s those thoughtful little touches that really set this place apart. We also have to mention Dave’s kindness. After a long hike our legs had definitely had enough, and he very kindly gave us a lift down to the marina. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Our only regret is not pre-booking the tasting menu. We’ve heard fantastic things about it and will definitely make sure we do next time. Thank you, Dave and Hayley, for making our stay so memorable. Your hospitality is second to none. We highly recommend Dome House to anyone looking for a relaxing Lake District escape, whether you’re travelling as a couple or with your dog.  Verified Everyone loved it. Brilliant venue which has unreal views of the beautiful surroundings. Feels really homely, mostly due to how wonderful the hosts are. They are friendly, accommodating and always on hand if needed. We had a real mix of ages with us and everyone had a great time. You’ll find yourself constantly being drawn to the balconies to just ‘stare yonder’. Food fantastic too.

 Verified Brilliant family holiday I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Have just spent 3 wonderful days with my family - 10 of us, ranging from 4 to 72 years old. Everyone had a ball. Dave and Hayley’s hosting skills are second to none. Spoiling us at every turn. Food amazing (we get to choose our own menu). The place is stunning. Fantastic views.  Verified Wonderful stay at Dome House Have just spent a lovely few days at Dome House. Dave and Hayley are amazing hosts. They greeted us and gave us the grand tour and all the information we would need to make our stay comfortable. Our bedroom had a balcony and lake view which was spectacular. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room had everything we needed from complimentary chocolates to a well stocked fridge, not to mention the large TV and great storage space. The bathroom was beautiful and was stocked with local high end toiletries which added to the feeling of luxury. Overall, our stay was the perfect, relaxing break we were looking for.  Verified Little Piece of Heaven..... Excellent Weekend Stay – Dome House We had a wonderful stay at Dome House while visiting the Lake District. From the warm welcome from Davey to the exceptional food prepared by Hayley, the whole experience was outstanding. Although we only stayed for one night, we were made to feel completely at home. Our room was spacious, beautifully presented, and had lovely views. It had everything we needed, including a complimentary stocked minibar with fizz – perfect for enjoying a drink out on the balcony. On arrival, Davey gave us a tour of the property, including the pool, hot tub, and sauna. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to make use of them, but they looked like fantastic facilities and created a really relaxing atmosphere. He also gave us an overview of the history of the Dome House which had featured on Grand Designs. The informal, welcoming feel of Dome House is one of its greatest strengths. We chose the tasting menu for dinner, and every course was delicious. Hayley's cooking is exceptional, and it was clear how much care and attention goes into every dish. Both Davey and Hayley strike the perfect balance as hosts. They're always on hand for a chat and made us feel incredibly welcome, yet they also give guests plenty of space to relax and enjoy the experience at their own pace. Nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning to Dome House either as a couple, or indeed there is the opportunity to hire out the whole house for a family special occasion. What type of accommodation is Dome House?

Dome House is a private house retreat in Bowness-on-Windermere. Like a hotel, it has five luxury suites that can be booked for overnight stays by couples, families and solo travellers. Like a holiday home, it can also be booked exclusively as a whole house hire for groups of ten guests. Dome House is not self-catering. Resident husband and wife hosts Dave and chef Hayley provide everything you need, including breakfast and dinner (when taken), throughout your stay.

What makes Dome House different from any other Lake District hotel or holiday cottage?

Dome House is a one-off, architecturally designed private retreat where every stay is built entirely around you. The building itself is remarkable: high ceilings, open spaces, a dramatic dry stone wall in the entrance hall and a full-length balcony framing one of the finest views in the Lake District.

Resident hosts Dave and Hayley live on site, Hayley cooks every meal from scratch around your dietary requirements and preferences. Host Dave has a warm personality that ensures you feel completely at home and your every wish is catered for. There is no fixed formula here. Just a very special house and two people who are very good at making guests feel at home.

What is included in a stay at Dome House?

All stays include a house tour on arrival, full breakfast cooked by chef Hayley, (excluding room-only bookings) use of the heated indoor pool, outdoor hot tub and wood-fired sauna, and a minibar in your suite.

Whole house hire includes breakfast bespoke dinners, snacks and drinks throughout your stay. Individual suite guests can upgrade their stay to include evening dinner, prior to arrival.

Where is Dome House?

Brantfell Road, Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria, LA23 3AE. Seven minutes’ walk from the centre of Bowness, with free on-site parking and 20-minutes’ drive from the M6. Approximately 1.5 hours from Manchester and Liverpool, and two hours from Glasgow.

Is Dome House dog friendly?

Yes. Dogs are welcome in selected the Windermere Suite and Malley Suite at £25 per dog per stay. Please confirm at the time of booking.

What is the minimum stay at Dome House?

There is currently no minimum stay requirement for individual room bookings except during Christmas and New Year, or when you book the whole house bookings.

Can I see RAF jets from Dome House?

Yes. Dome House sits in a valley flight path and RAF jets occasionally fly past during daylight hours. The full-length balcony of the Dome Room is the best place for seeing this spectacular display.

Did Dome House appear on Channel 4’s Grand Designs?

Yes. Dome House featured twice on Channel 4’s Grand Designs, and the architecture that captured the nation’s imagination is now yours to stay in. The building has been extensively renovated since filming, and what you experience today reflects years of careful investment and recent bedroom refurbishment to make it truly special. The Grand Designs story is part of the house’s history, but the experience husband and wife team Dave and Hayley have created here is very much its own chapter.
