The start of a great adventure

Some said we were crazy, some said we were brave.

In reality we are probably both.

The Hadfields have always loved a challenge and we’re ready for what lies
ahead.

28th February 2025
After 6 years we closed our successful business, left our beautiful little National Trust cottage rental, moved away from family and friends to embark on a new adventure in the Lake District. We arrived with a Luton van containing pretty much everything we owned, our good friends Amanda and Mike on hand to help us unload, we arrived at The Dome House.

We’d been popping up on and off since October to check on the renovation progress. The last visit in January, it was very much a building site… When we landed in February, it was still… very much a building site.

Externally I was smiling and saying, ‘oh well, there can’t be that much more to do now Internally I was thinking oh god,  what has been going on here for the last month, it doesn’t look any different to our last visit!

It was still a building site and any of the rooms that weren’t being worked on were still packed full floor to ceiling with ‘stuff’.

At least 6 contractors on site.

Not one to be phased we started to unload ‘our stuff’ into one the empty bedroom of  our apartment. Thank goodness we didn’t have a lot of stuff, (we had decluttered just before the move).

If you’ve ever moved house, it’s emotionally exhausting.

Thankfully we had strategically packed and had easy access to bedding, even though we knew the first night we would just be sleeping on our mattress rather than a fully made bed.

My first mission was to get my kitchen set up. It must be the chef in, but I wanted to wake up and be able to cook breakfast in our new home.

My next mission to head into Bowness on Windermere and take in the atmosphere of our new home town. Of course a well earned glass of wine was on the cards, but it was also an opportunity to decompress and unwind.

The whole day felt incredibly surreal, like I was living in a parallel universe. As we fell into an exhausted sleep on the makeshift bed, we felt a sense of peace and a feeling of being home.

Tomorrow is another day and the start of our greatest adventure.
